Like pop music, lyrics often stress romantic love but also address a wide variety of other themes that are frequently social or political in emphasis. The dominance of rock by white, male musicians has been seen as one of the key factors shaping the hems explored in rock music. Rock places a higher degree of emphasis on musicianship, live performance, and an ideology of authenticity than pop music. H. Related Studies It is quite easy to see exactly how strong the power of music is and will become in the future. There have been many studies proven this. For example, a study shows that students who studied music in high school made better grades than those who did not. The reasoning for this is that listening to music makes you think more efficiently and improves your memory.

Political Ideology and Voting Behavior in the Age of Jackson Essay

Political Ideology and Voting Behavior in the Age of Jackson - Essay Example The majority of all historical accounts depict President Jackson as a strong and aggressive individual who frequently resorted to bullying as a means of championing the causes of the common man. He has been reputed to have bullied the Indians, the national bank, and the states. Despite his strategic and methodic bullying of others, he is remembered as being responsible for bringing democracy to the â€Å"common† white man and championing one of the most poignant and vigilant suffrage movements of all times. His great favor for the common white man can be directly attributed to his humble beginnings. He was a fairly uneducated individual who received formal education sporadically throughout his formative years but was successful in applying himself to the study of law for a period of two years. As a direct result of this, he became an excellent lawyer and gained acclaim. His fame and fortune were a strong testament to the notion that with hard work and perseverance a common man can achieve success irrespective of his beginnings. This fame and fortune, however, was very costly in that President Jackson were greeted with great hostility by individuals fueled by jealousy. This jealousy resulted in the death of a man at the hands of President Jackson when he attempted to defend the honor of his wife, Rachel. President Jackson went on to become a national war hero when he led a brigade which was responsible for defeating the British at New Orleans during the war of 1812. Despite the fact that he did not win his first bid for presidency in 1824, his candidacy was historical in that he was the first individual to lose an election despite the fact that he amassed the most popular vote.3 He went on to become the seventh president of the United States. Since his election in 1828, he has been depicted as a democrat who has gone above and beyond to represent the common, working people with what became known as Jacksonian democracy. At the heart of Jacksonian democracy is the notion that the lion's share of the power to elect the leaders of the United States should reside with the people and not with the Electoral College or the House of Representatives. This notion was made salient by the 1824 loss he suffered when he won the popular vote and lost the election as a direct result of what he considered to be "corrupt bargain".4

An investigation of the risk and protective factors associated with Research Proposal

An investigation of the risk and protective factors associated with high school graduation in the United States - Research Proposal Example Experts have estimated between 3.5 million and 6 million American students between ages 16 and 24 dropped out of schools for the last two years (Haskins, 2010). About 50 percent of minors fail to graduate with their class. African Americans tend to drop out higher than other minorities, which creates significant problems for them (Kogan et.al, 2005). For the class of 2013 84.1% of African Americans graduated, American Indian graduated 85.8%, Asian graduated at 93.8%, Hispanic at 85.1% and white at 93% according to Texas Education Agency 2012-2013. African Americans had the highest longitudinal dropout rate across racial/ethnic groups (9.9%), followed by Hispanics (8.2%). Asians had the lowest longitudinal dropout rate (3.0%), followed by White (3.5%) and multiracial students (4.4%). In the class of 2013, a total of 21,634 students dropped out in Texas. Females had a higher graduation rate of 90.3% compared to males with 85.9% (Texas Education Agency, 2013). Each state is experiencing the same trouble with a large percentage of students not graduating, so as a nation we are losing. In Texas, a total of 3,187 students dropped out of Grades 7-8, and 31,509 dropped out of Grades 9-12. The Grade 7-8 and Grade 9-12 dropout rates were 0.4 percent and 2.2 percent, respectively. The Grade 7-8 rate increased 0.1 percentage points from the 2011-12 school year, and the Grade 9-12 decreased 0.2 percentage points (TEA, 2013). In the school district that I work in which is Klein ISD, in 2010 Klein saw an increase in graduation rate. In May of 2010, 84.3% of the students statewide graduated while Klein ISD had a 92.6% completion rate. The student dropout rate has been an area of concern for many years in the United States. Programs are being implemented to help improve our nation’s battle with graduation. In 1984 House Bill 72 was passed to implement a system for collecting data on student dropouts. In 2009 House Bill 3 was passed to add postsecondary

Functional organizations are described by organizational charts Essay

Functional organizations are described by organizational charts. Explain why a temporary organization such as a project can benefit from using an organizational chart - Essay Example lpful where projects involve various departments and participants who have to coordinate their work or when they are required to report to a person from a different department. Some projects involve working with new faces and one has to learn to recognize these new faces for better efficiency under these circumstances, an organizational chart comes in handy because it not only has the faces of the participants of the project but also their names and their different roles not to mention it provides a constant reference point. An organizational structure helps in better management of resources and personnel by preventing duplication of roles and capacities moreover, it helps reduce the work load of managers and supervisors as it shows the number of people they have to supervise and the various departments that have to report to them. If the project is to take a considerable length of time, an organizational chart is used by project participants to see their promotion options and the vacancies that surround them. This way they don’t have to miss out of opportunities that they can easily take advantage

Human Resource (HRM) Planning in Health Organization Strategic Human Resource Management Business Growth The factor of Human Resource Planning in Health Organization is this factor describes the basic service that is provided by health resources department to the operating system of the organization to the health sector human resource management will have a difference in business become without the conviction of human resource management it will not make a difference. By the influence of business human resource planning in healthcare organization people can be motivated to drive the human resource management the business growth performance level, it can build the employee commitment by using the human resource practices. Human resource practices have 3 major in general, these three are (1) They have to build some new capabilities of the organization critically (2) The satisfaction of the employee have to be enhance (3) The shareholder and costumer mainly have to improve the satisfaction. Decline Human Resource Management in healthcare in decline is they must engaged a core group strategies, strategies that will enhance the human resource, to do this is the human resource management must raise their profile issue base on the conceptual and must improve and also the decision makers must be statistically available as evidence. Human Resource Management in healthcare through the global human resources crisis the community will be the one to respond t the growing health crises in developing countries, which will trigger the responds to focused on the mobilizing of the financial status of the resources and the increased access to all essential medicine, however the most important in the healthcare system is the people that will make them work which is the most important aspect and later on it will be tackled. The human resource for health personnel will be the one responsible to deliver in health publicity not only clinically but also the environmental services are decline and des troy much for developing. However the mobility demand and the issues of supply are central to human resource problem, namely local transnational and regional. Human Resource Management Health workforce, change, competition/challenge The healthcare delivery system is a very highly labour intensive, in so far for the health worker performance or the most function of mediate health system are very central for the health system of human resources to be more continuously more effective, the healthcare system of human resource must have a mixed Healthcare worker and a right number of healthcare worker and also they have to be ensure they possess the skilful worker and also they have to be ensure that they possess the skilful worker in order to perform the function very well of what he has assigned to do for, and have the means of motivation. There are three dimension where the Human Resource management are involved, because of the many countries now are facing the crisis. These dimensions are: Performance – this is the care with quality that a health workers can provide which will relate to the health workers productivity Distribution – this is where the presence of a health worker is most needed which relate to the retirement and recruitment. Availability – this is only relates to the qualified health worker which are supplied. Labour Market competition and employee development. First let’s define what a labour market is, what is a market and what is labour. Well a market let say is a kind of structure where the sellers and buyers are allowed to exchange goods, information or services of any type. While on the other hand labour market is a kind of structure where they allow the labour services to be bought and sold. For the labour market for the combination between labour and market are also in different terms, specifically labour market are those employ staff who seek to employ are called buyers and for those who are seeking for employment are the ones called the sellers. The well-functioning of a labour market in compensation or wages – it can be understand by a overall return for an employment particularly not only in the financial component but this is also will act as the mechanism to what the buyers intension and the seizures will be reconciled. Tends to be the demands and also the supply of labour are towards to the equilibrium. They are said to be clear, that is labour market only when the supply of the labour will matched to demand to the workers. However being clear to the labour market are not always in the way. If they are going to fail to do so. They will going to exhibit either or neither employments or labour surplus. The system will very dynamic when it becomes to health labour system it compromise two distinct but its closely related to the economic forces for such workers and for the demand of the supply health workers. In the tradition the human resource management analysis for supply crisis have been only framed to receive scant attention with the demand side factors. Human Resource Management planning in a healthcare organisation Identifying internal personnel requirements , internal and external factors in matching personnel to organisational requirements; government policies and labour market competition. In my research the human resource business management in healthcare founded to be divided in three cluster these are (1) internally operating measures (2) internally have the strategic plan measures (3) externally operating measures these three cluster are said to be to help the function of the human resource management and drives the business contribution in better view. For the cluster one which is the internally operating measures is that this cluster is emphasis more on the traditional way of human resource management measure for because human resource function here and the human resource professionals are held for their accountable, they more focus on the quality, efficiency and the speed of the delivering process of human resource practices and the human resource management will function as a whole, while the cluster two the internally strategic measures human resource in the way of how they build the organization capabilities and enhancement of employee satisfaction and last ly the third cluster is the external strategic measures this are cluster will be assessing the external strategic measures this cluster will be assessing the effectiveness of the human resource management practices on how the shareholder and customers are satisfied, the purpose of this is to drive the shareholder and the customers satisfaction. The health labour better policies and market analysis comparatively in a study implications of government in the Dominican republic are analytically analyse the wage bills policies for the workforce of the healthcare, There are four countries who are implementing the general government wage bills policies restriction, these countries are Dominican republic, Zambia and Rwanda and they also study the purpose of those policies and the effects on the strategy of human resource management for expanding or maintaining the workforce. The demand health for the workers for the country are determine by the government, private sector and multinational sector corporations and donors are willing to pay them just to hire them. Juvenile Crime Prevention in America Essay -- Juvenile Crime Essays

Juvenile crime in the United States is ballooning out of control along with adult crimes, and politicians and law enforcement officials don’t seem to be able to do anything about it. Despite tougher sentencing laws, longer probation terms, and all other efforts of lawmakers, the crime and recidivism rates in our country can’t be reduced. The failure of these recent measures along with new research and studies by county juvenile delinquency programs point to the only real cure to the U.S.’s crime problem: prevention programs. The rising crime rates in the United States are of much worry to most of the U.S.’s citizens, and seems to be gaining a sense of urgency. Crime ranks highest in nationwide polls as Americans’ biggest concern (Daltry 22). For good reason- twice as many people have been victims of crimes in the 1990s as in the 1970s (Betts 36). Four times as many people under the age of eighteen were arrested for homicide with a handgun in 1993 th an in 1983 (Schiraldi 11A). These problems don’t have a quick fix solution, or even an answer that everyone can agree on. A study by the Campaign for an Effective Crime Policy has found no deterrent effects of the â€Å"Three Strikes and You’re Out† law recently put into effect by politicians (Feinsilber 1A). It has been agreed however that there is not much hope of rehabilitating criminals once started on a life of crime. Criminologist David Kuzmeski sums up this feeling by saying, â€Å"If society wants to protect itself from violent criminals, the best way it can do it is lock them up until they are over thirty years of age.... I am not aware of any treatment that has been particularly successful.† The problem with his plan is that our country simply doesn’t have the jail space, or money to ... ... Mitosis Write-Up

Mitosis: (onion roots) Root cells are good for observing mitosis; this is because they're in the tip of the root which is an area of the plant that grows quickly. This results in more cells going through mitosis all at once, also allowing us to examine the different stages of mitosis. Stages: 1. Interphase: DNA replicates, but has not formed the condensed structure. They remain as loosely coiled chromatin. The nucleus is still intact. 2. Prophase: The DNA molecules progressively shorten and condense by coiling, to form chromosomes. The spindle fibres are pulled to opposite sides/poles of the cell.3. Metaphase: The spindle fibres attach themselves to the centromeres of the chromosomes.4. Anaphase: The spindle fibres shorten and the centromere splits, separated sister chromatids are pulled along behind the centromeres.5. Telophase: The chromosomes reach the poles of their respective spindles. Nuclear envelope reform before the chromosomes uncoil. The spindle fibres disintegrate.Method/Procedure:1. Place some premixed 1 molar Hydrochloric acid and Acetic Orcein in the watch glass. Similar essay: Why Would We Choose An Embryonic MassBe careful not to get this mixture on your skin or clothing. * Hydrochloric acid (HCL) breaks down the middle lamella and softens the cells tissue and the cell will lose its 3-D shape.2. In to this mixture place the terminal (end) 3 or 4 mm of a garlic root (remove the rest of the root). * The cut end needs to be removed in order to avoid random errors.3. Place on the 40oC heating blocks to warm. In a short time (a few minutes) the root tip will feel soft when touched with a mounted needle (Do not let it dry out completely). Heat it in order to speed up the process of the cell wall breaking down, and also for the stain to spread quicker. The stain will bind with the DNA, and it will become more visible.4. Now, using forceps or the mounted needle, pick up the softened root tip and transfer it in to a clean slide.5. Add a few drops of Acetic Orcein6. Using a mounted needle macerate (Squash) the root tip.7. Once this procedure is compl ete, apply a clean cover slip to the slide and heat it gently on the 40oC heating blocks for 10 seconds to intensify the stain. This will spread the stain and allow it to bind with the DNA.8. Then invert the slide on a blotting paper and push down ward firmly, applying pressure with your thumb over the cover glass. This should flatten the cells and disperse them so they can be observed under the microscope. This will help flatten it to cell thick.Depending upon how effective your squash has been you may either use this or a pre-prepared slide to observe the stages of mitosis in the root tip; you will use either one to identify and record the different stages of mitosis.Variables: Independent Variables: The slide itself, however, we don’t know anything about the slide.Dependent Variable: The percentage of cells in each stage of mitosis. Controlled Variables: No. of cells counted. The magnification power used. Were my results valid and reliable? Valid: To ensure my results were v alid, I compared my results with the other classes’ results, who were also undertaking the same experiment. Also, I compared them to other results I’ve have online, and made sure they both agree. Reliability: My results were reliable because, 20 other different students in my class also did the experiment, and my results are the average of them all.Errors: I have identified some systematical errors, such as; students consistently looking at the wrong section of the root, as opposed to the growing section. We do not want this as it will damage our results—However, if one individual does this then it will become a random error along with students confusing stages together. e. g. If you look at the attached data; student ‘TW’ overestimated the telophase cells, and underestimated the prophase cells. This is a prime example of a random error in my results. Trends and patterns: I have identified several trends and patterns in my results, for example; the interphase stage took the longest.I expected this to be the case because interphase has along of stage within itself, so it is understandable for it to take considerable more time than the rest. Also, I have noticed that anaphase took the shortest amount of time, as it is just the centromeres splitting and separating. Process of Mitosis: If a group of cells is dividing rapidly, a high proportion of the cells will be undergoing mitosis. A group of cells that is not dividing will have all cells in interphase of the cell cycle. The amount of cell division occurring in a tissue can be quantified using the mitotic index. The mitotic index is used for studying tumour growth in cancer patients. Using the formula below, calculate the mitotic index for your root tip preparation. If you have time, compare this value with the mitotic index of an area of cells away from the root tip and comment on your findings. e. g. Mitotic Index = number of cells containing visible chromosomes total number of cells in the field of view Data analysis: #DIV/0! = Mean. // #DIV0! Of the phases; 13. 126315. – Precision: To the nearest cell (1dp) Title: % of time spent in each phase cycle.

Criminal Law Child Protection from Pornography and Labor

Criminal Law Child Protection from Pornography and Labor Introduction The problems facing the children internationally include internet child pornography and child labor. These are problems widespread across the globe because of abating of the vices by government officials of various states and instability of various policy frameworks set by the governments.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Criminal Law: Child Protection from Pornography and Labor specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Also, the social malpractices like bribery have also led to the laxity in dealing with the menace. There is a need for the involvement of the community and organization of goodwill, in the alleviation of poverty and suffering of children. This owes to the fact that poverty is the root cause of child abuse. Internet child pornography The internet is a virtual platform for the predation of children by the unscrupulous people. The people who propagate this vice act illegally, given that it is hard to apprehend them legally. This owes to the fact that different countries have their jurisdictions and internet space. This makes it difficult for identifying, arresting, and prosecution of these criminals. Moreover, not every nation is a signatory to the international internet protocol pact. Therefore, some countries allow the practice in their jurisdiction. Sanderson (2007, 23) posits that lack of funding also contributes to the low legal response to this vice. This aggravates the situation because the legal practitioners, who ought to investigate the suspects, accept bribes, and let the suspects go unpunished. Child labor This is the forced working of children at attender age, usually between the age of 5 and 14 years. This arises from the low financial status of families. This is because their parents forcefully bond some children because they have no power to object. Furthermore, young children may not be aware of the problem until later in life. This practice denies the children the chance of attending school; hence, they grow as illiterates. This affects every aspect of their lives, including their financial stability. The practice is usually concealed. Hence it becomes difficult for the policy enforcers to crack down on the propagators of these criminals. Hugh (2009, 35) posits that the consent of the parents of the children to the vice aggravates the situation. However, financial instability is the overriding causal problem. Therefore, it is incumbent upon all governments to boost the economic and financial welfare of its citizenry to avert the vice. Children can also be abducted and subjected to forced labor by the abductors. The children are compelled to work in adverse conditions detrimental to their health and safety. The children are also denied freedom of expression to suppress complaints from the children. Indeed, they are also denied the freedom of movement, given that they may escape (Chris, 2007, 51). This makes the children afraid and traumat ized; hence; they are forever victims of circumstance. They do not receive any compensation for the services they offer.Advertising Looking for report on criminal law? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Remedial measures for Internet child pornography There is a remedy to the vice of internet child pornography. Governments ought to liaise in curbing this vice. This can be done through harmonizing of policies of various governments about internet misuse. The sites that provide child pornography need to be banned from the operation and heavy fines charged. Also, the parents of children should teach, guide, and counsel their children on the virtues of life and the negative impacts of watching such pornographic videos online. This will enlighten the children of the immorality of indulging in the practice. The government also ought to create laws prohibiting the practice and provision of severe penalties for committing and a bating the practice. Corporate Social Responsibility in the International education center This is an international organization, which provides education to children across the globe. It has branches all over the world. The organization embraces the aspect of corporate social responsibility because of the vitality of the practice. This responsibility is implied for every organization. Its practice leads to goodwill from the members of society and assures of the going concern of the organization because of the many benefits derived from the initiative. This institution carries out a free educational program for all the street children around its locations in the world. This affords the street children an opportunity to access literacy and intellectual development. Furthermore, the education obtained opens all avenues of the lives of these children, including financial breakthroughs. This lowers the crime rate in such towns, given that street children grow up to be robbers and burgla rs (Hugh, 2009, 43). In this regard, society benefits from this corporate social responsibility of the institution. Ways of making child welfare projects successful There are many ways in which children can be assisted to overcome their predicaments. First is the creation of non-governmental organizations to clamor for adherence to child rights. These initiatives also advocate for the ban of all social evils done to children, including child labor. According to Farquhar (2008, 67), these organizations will spearhead the restoration of fair treatment of children across the globe. The creation of many needy children centers will provide a safe place for vulnerable children. This will reduce the numbers of cases of child mistreatment and abuse. Ways of Improving We Care organization We Care initiative can be improved through sufficient funding, which will enable the meeting of the divergent needs of children from all occupations. In this regard, parents and other people will bring the children to the organization for rehabilitation and intellectual development.Advertising We will write a custom report sample on Criminal Law: Child Protection from Pornography and Labor specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The donation of various goodies like learning materials, food, and other learning paraphernalia necessities will make We Care organization a better place for all and sundry. The organization can also be improved through the use of corporate social responsibility aspect. This will create awareness to the community regarding the agenda of the organization. Conclusion There is a need for a concerted effort in ensuring the welfare of all children across the globe. The synergistic approach will eliminate the mistreatment of children and the propagation of immoral practices like internet child pornography and child labor. Internet child pornography can be eliminated through the collective ban of the practice among all natio ns across the globe. This will be possible through the constitutional amendments to accommodate the ban of internet child pornography. Child labor can also be curbed through full implementation of the child rights. This will help in the apprehension of the people who take part in child abuse. Organizations can help children through complying with the corporate social responsibilities. How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Essay Example

How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Essay Example How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Paper How effective is the use of first person narrative in The Yellow Wallpaper Paper Essay Topic: Literature The Yellow Wallpaper The yellow wallpaper is a story dominated by the protagonist, as she is isolated from the world and society except for the servant girl Jennie and her husband John. The advantages of using first person narrative in this article are the strong emotional and mental link with the protagonist, which can be portrayed much more effectively than any other perspective of the story. Also the point of view on Johns and the other characters, however few, actions and comments are biased to the protagonists thoughts and feelings. The protagonist also has a closer relationship with the audience than if it were in another perspective and the reader had more segregation from the main character. The first person perspective allow the protagonist to collude with the reader, this collusion would not be possible with third person perspective and second person perspective could only give another persons view of the events and with this story they would have had to have been a fly on the wall. The protagonist can make the reader sympathize with her in a way which can portray her as the victim of isolation with the only mental stimulus being the maddening, encompassing visage of the faded and tattered wallpaper that invades her thoughts and cognitions overwhelmingly to such an extent that it destroys all sense reality in her mind. I never saw so much expression in a thing before, and we all know how much expression they have, this quote show her collusion with the reader and the conversing of her, at this stage, fascination with the paper. The protagonist can get the reader involved by sharing secrets that he [John] hates to have me write a word but she still secretly journalises the events until the last couple of days when she seems to be writing the events as the happen, as if part of her obsession is to document her discoveries of the encapsulating wallpaper that enthrals her. A biased opinion can be given by the first person narrative, this opinion shows John to be acting against the will of the protagonist, but because of her social place at the time it was seen as wrong for her to question him so she puts her views on paper you see he does not believe I am sick! And what is one to do? The story cannot portray Johns reasons for her confinement or his banning of writing and any mental exercise. The first person view can show the deterioration of the protagonists mental state as she slides into delusion. At the beginning of the text she admits that there is something wrong I never used to be so sensitive. I think it is due to this nervous condition. But later on she shows here blatant derangement This bed will not move! I tried to lift it and push it until I was lame, and then I got so angry I bit off a little piece at the corner but it hurt my teeth this shows her unthinking and irrational nature, she noticed earlier on that the bed is nailed to the floor. The language of the text alters showing her slowly shifting mental state. The story begins with normal language typical of the era that it was written in but it slowly becomes more erratic and obsessive. The language also becomes more darkly descriptive as her perception changes: It [the wallpaper] sticks horribly and the pattern just enjoys it! All those strangled heads and bulbous eyes and waddling fungus growths just shriek with derision this is a much less bright and colourful portrayal of her environment than before. Before she presents the paper as One of those sprawling, flamboyant patterns committing every artistic sin. this is a less obsessive and much brighter view of the paper. This story of The Yellow Wallpaper would not have the same powerful effect on the reader if it were written from another point of view. The protagonist could not collude with the audience, she could not ask rhetorical questions and she could not make the reader involved with her defiant, secret acts of writing. The reader could not feel as if they were hiding with her and the reader could not be persuaded to take her side on the issues arising from the paper and her confinement. The whole script would be a hollow and boring case study of a seemingly mad woman if it was not told by her, she brings life to the story. The protagonist could not ask but what is one to do? with the same half asking the audience. I think that the effectiveness of the first person perspective in the Yellow Wallpaper is much more involving for the reader and it makes the story seem more real than any other way of writing.

Linda Loman and the Cult of Domesticity In Arthur Millers Death of a Essay

Linda Loman and the Cult of Domesticity In Arthur Millers Death of a Salesman - Essay Example Miller's archetypal portrayal of Linda Loman therefore represents both a general example and a figurehead for her social status: lower middle class suburban white domestics. Alienated from her husband Willy, Linda tries to accommodate his role of the head of household, despite the fact that she must see to the actual running and repair of the home. She accepts a subordinate role and lives vicariously through his dreams: as Miller describes her "she admires him his massive dreams and little cruelties (are) reminders of the turbulent longings within him which she shares but lacks the temperament to utter and follow" (Miller 12). With her dreams confined to the house and her life defined by what her husband can provide, it is no surprise that Linda constantly seeks to support Willy self-image and delusions while attempting to create a level of harmony between him and their two children. Paradoxically, these same restraints of patriarchy and cult of domesticity drive Willy's motivations as well, for he is obliged to both be the provider and secure a sheltered reality for Linda safe from the outside world. Thus, Linda's fate is completely entwined with Willy's. She ultimately symbolizes the model of many domestic ideals yet at the same time provides a warning to women everywhere of the dangers inherent in being sheltered from the rest of society. To fully understand the extent with which Linda's psychology has been entrapped, one must first examine both the tenets of the cult of domesticity (COD) and then the methods with which these qualities were reinforced by society. The COD is framed by four main elements: domesticity, submissiveness, purity, and piety. While this last element in not overtly present in the play (given that the general religion of America is regarded as Protestant Christianity), it is present through the concept of faith, through Willy's faith in the Business World, Linda's faith in her husband, and the faith of both in the established order of the family unit. It is the slow erosion of these faiths' that bring about the psychological crises in the plot. Linda is generally regarded by family members as 'pure' in sexual experience and fidelity, as exhibited by the boys using her for a model of their ideal wives and by Willy's concern in providing for her (her faithfulness constantly provoking guilt over h is own infidelity). Likewise, while other female characters in the play are strong and independent depictions, they are suspicious in that they have broken away from the traditional domestic role. As such, they are morally questionable, with an aura of promiscuity about them illustrated all the more by Willy's affair and by the boys frequent conquests. Linda completely fulfills the qualification of submissiveness, through such examples as removing Willy's shoes for him in the very first scene, to pandering to his ego by calling him "the handsomest man in the world.." (Miller 37). The COD has instilled women with the notion that they need a "protector;" it is therefore Linda's role to not only see to her husband's every comfort while at home, but she must also bolster him mentally and emotionally so that he can go out and face the world. As far as domestic rule, Linda is revealed to be in charge of the actual operation
